About Vitality Journal
Independent reporting on how medicines are discovered, tested, approved and paid for.
Vitality Journal is written for people who work in and around drug development: scientists, clinicians, investors, policy staff and the executives who have to make decisions on incomplete information.
We publish every weekday. Most of what we cover falls into a few recurring questions. Did the trial work? Will the regulator agree? Who is buying whom, and at what price? What will patients and health systems be asked to pay?
Alongside daily news we maintain a set of trackers on deals, financing, public offerings and patent expirations, updated as events happen.
How we work
Four rules every story is edited against.
- 1
We name our sources where we can
Anonymous sourcing is used only when the information matters to readers and could not be obtained on the record. An editor always knows who the source is.
- 2
Data before adjectives
A trial result is reported with its numbers, its comparison group and its limits. We avoid words like breakthrough unless a regulator has used them formally.
- 3
Corrections are public
When we get something wrong we fix it and say so at the foot of the story, with the date of the change.
- 4
Advertising does not shape coverage
Sponsors have no say in what we report or when. Paid content is labelled and is never written by our reporters.
